Jackson police officers used a stun gun to subdue a man Thursday who had blocked traffic for hours on the interstate.
Officers arrived and tried to coax the man off the interstate. At one point, he straddled the bridge, which goes over railroad tracks. He was also seen walking along the ledge of the bridge.
“We had to use a lot of patience. We had to use negotiations (and) continue to talk to the individual,” Deputy Chief James Davis said.
Officers shocked the man with a Taser before 11 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Davis said officers stunned the man after he threatened to jump over the bridge.
“He didn’t lose his life and he was taken into care, so people appreciate that,” Davis said.
Traffic was stopped and a train was delayed while the incident was underway.
